The expression "content is king" has been around for a long time. It is spoken in reference to magazines, newspapers and the web. In it's simplest form it means that he (or she) who has the best content will be king.
So, how do you get the best content? Well, certainly don't try and steal it!
No, if you want to get good content you have to spend the time to either write it yourself or hire someone else to write it for you.
One "rule" of the expression "content is king" is known as the "law of ten"
The law of ten is a system many people use to begin their drive towards becoming a content king and begins by writing articles. Ten articles to be precise.
See, if you can pick a single topic and write ten articles about it you will be on your way towards becoming a content king.
It does not matter what topic you choose to write about, what matters is that you are able to focus long enough to write ten articles.
Ten articles is a bit of a hump number. If you can make it past ten than you have proven to yourself that you have the will to write and the interest to write about something.
Many bloggers bounce around from topic to topic, sometimes even within the same post. Now, this can be entertaining to read if you like comedy but, if you are looking for something heavier than "what I ate for breakfast today" this sort of writing is not going to work for you.
Take a quick look around at some of the blogs you currently read and ask yourself a few questions:
Chances are that the blogs you enjoy reading appeal to you because of both the writers style and the content which they are writing about.
So, now you look at some of these syndicated blogs from people who make $20K+ per month blogging and you want to get a place in that gravy train? Well, it's not that easy.
There are millions of bloggers on-line right now. A lot of them are thinking the same thing, "man, if I could just write something funny about smashing my face into a door and then put it on YouTube I'd be rich!" That is not to be! Most of those people will smash their face into a door and put that video on YouTube and be left with nothing but a broken nose and some hospital bills.
Do you know why?
Because they have to do that at least ten times to build up some content!
They might be able to talk some of their friends into doing it but I don't think they'll be able to talk ten friends into doing it, unless they all do it at the same time...
So my young blogger, go out there and pick a topic to write ten articles about. Once those ten articles are written post them on your blog, but spread them out, one a day or so. Then sit back and look at your traffic numbers.
I will warn you, writing ten articles about the breakfasts you ate over a two week period may not garner as much traffic as ten articles about how you and your friends built a full-size transformer! So please try and pick a topic that both interests you and will interest your audience.
