A few weeks back I pulled an all night shift at work because of a tree falling on some telco wires. Oh what a profitable night that was!
A few days later the hole was still black and warm. So warm that no snow had accumulated around it even though several inches had fallen that week.
I took the opportunity to fish a rock out of the hole. That is what is in the picture above. The greenish substance is glass. Glass formed by intense heat.
Why do I say intense heat? There was a fire. The fire was so hot it burned through the kevlar lining around the fiber optic cables that were burned clean through.
Yes, it was quite a profitable night for me. It is probably also the only overtime hours I will see this year!
